That is Giuseppe Garibaldi, he is considered a national hero in Italy for his military career and expeditions to South America.
The man in the picture is Giuseppe Garibaldi, the Italian revolutionary who unified Italy 150 years ago.

That's Giuseppe Garibaldi. He was one of the main figures of il risorgimiento. He fought for Italy's unification.
He also fought in far away places like Uruguay!!
Three correct answers. Well done. Anthony was first with Garibaldi and so wins a SAIS Bologna tee shirt. Anthony - send your shirt size (S, M, L, XL) and your mailing address to admissions@jhubc.it, and we'll send one off to you. And Diego and Luis, next time you're in Bologna, would you like a free cappuccino?
By the way, if you go to this link -- http://www.jhubc.it/RIVISTA/FALL2011/index.cfm -- you'll see several articles on Italy's history as well as Garibaldi's photo in the latest edition of our publication, La Rivista.
Thank you Mr. Graves. I'll be in Bologna in two weeks for the "Open day" at SAIS. What a perfect moment for a free cappuccino!
- Diego T.
