Weekly quiz

A reminder to those candidates who were admitted that the deadline for accepting the offer is Monday, May 16. To accept (or in the academic parlance, "matriculate"), please consult your acceptance letter. The class of 2011-12 is shaping up nicely -- more on that when the dust has settled.

We're going to be cutting back on the pace of our blog posts after May 16. We haven't yet decided how regularly we will post -- this is a work in progress, as most of you know. One thing we intend to do is to poll our readers for feedback to help guide us in coming months.

On to the quiz.

Why was the SAIS Bologna Alumni Weekend unable to take place as scheduled in 2010?

The prize: a SAIS Bologna tee shirt. (If you want to win, we'll need your shirt size -- via a comment or email.)

Hello,
I think it might not have taken place as has been schedulded before because of the volcano named Eyjafjallajokull. It began spewing ash on April 14th and this allowed no flights. So not all alumni were possibly able to come.
Best wishes to all of you, Daniela

The eruption of Eyjafjallajökull and consequent grounding of most European air travel? (M shirt size)

Was it canceled due to the volcanic activities that happened around this time last year in Europe and caused travel disruptions everywhere?

Three responses and three correct answers. The eruptions of Eyjafjallajökull in Iceland in April and May 2010 prevented many alumni from reaching Bologna for Alumni Weekend. But many still managed to come to join their classmates. Mother Nature has her ways, and in this case it cause problems for many but also underscored the loyalty of those who despite the odds were able to make it. I think Daniela is a first time player in the quiz. Well done. We'll need your tee shirt size! Nelson

You did not give us a lot of time to answer! :)

Julie Louise - We've been waiting generally about 12-18 hours before publishing the comments/answers. Usually, but not always, there are several correct answers by that time. I thought it fair to wait at least 12 hours to give all time zones a chance. Do you think we should wait longer? Say, until Monday morning Italy time? I'd be interested in our readers' thoughts. Also, soon we plan to circulate a survey among our readers to get your feedback on what has worked and what has not with this blog since we launched it in December.
